Music by George Frideric Handel Libretto by John Gay
Gods, mortals, and guitars.
The sea nymph, Galatea, is blissfully in love with Acis, a shepherd. The jealous one-eyed giant Polyphemus crushes Acis under a rock, but Galatea uses her divine powers to transform him into a fountain.
One of Handel’s most beloved stage works gets a contemporary cinematic retelling from director David Lefkowich. Filmed in various locations around Annapolis, this updated production features a wedding, dueling guitars, and highlights the resilience of love in the face of jealousy and death.
Acis and Galatea is a co-production of Annapolis Opera and Tri-Cities Opera. Acis and Galatea was conceived and directed by David Lefkowich for Out of The Box Opera and is being presented by Annapolis Opera and Tri-Cities Opera under agreement with David Lefkowich and Out of the Box Opera.
