Service Animals
In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), service animals are permitted at Tri-Cities Opera events. Under the ADA, a service animal is defined as a dog that has been individually trained to perform tasks or work for a person with a disability. In certain circumstances, miniature horses may also qualify as service animals. Service animals must:
- Be under the control of the handler at all times
- Be harnessed, leashed, or tethered unless these devices interfere with the animal’s work or the handler’s disability prevents their use
- Be housebroken
Tri-Cities Opera may ask that a service animal be removed if:
- The animal is out of control and the handler does not take effective action to control it, or
- The animal poses a direct threat to the health or safety of others
Animals whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA.
