John Elam, Pianist & Musical Associate, studied at the University of Michigan under Martin Katz, completing his Doctorate of Musical Arts in Collaborative Piano this past spring.  He received his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Piano Performance from Baylor University, where he studied with Jane Abbott-Kirk.  He has worked as a vocal coach and pianist for productions of Don Giovanni, Madama Butterfly, Into the Woods, and Les Contes d’Hoffmann with conductors Thomas Cockrell and Christopher Lees.  Dr. Elam has also worked as a coach with Michigan Opera Theater and this summer served as Apprentice Coach with the San Francisco Opera’s Merola Program for their production of Conrad Susa’s Transformations, working with conductors Neal Goren, Eric Weimer, and Rory McDonald. In May, Dr. Elam will take up a residency with San Francisco Opera as an Adler Fellow.
