Tri-Cities Opera's first mainstage opera of the 2013-2014 season is Georges Bizet's Carmen. Performances will take place on October 25 & 27, 2013, at 8:00PM and 3:00PM respectively, at the Forum Theatre in Binghamton, New York.

Joining TCO for this production are two outstanding guest artists. In the title role of Carmen we proudly present Ginger Costa-Jackson and as Stage Director, David Lefkowich

Ms. Costa-Jackson’s 2013-2014 engagements include Carmen with Tri-Cities Opera, and Virginia Opera. She returns to the Metropolitan Opera for performances of Così fan tutte ("Dorabella"), and Falstaff ("Meg Page"). The Italian-American mezzo-soprano is a graduate of the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program and a Samling Scholar. Her roles with the Met include "Smaradgi" in Zadonai’s Francesca da Rimini, "Mercédès" in Bizet’s Carmen, "Lola" in Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana, "Myrtale" in Massenet’s Thaïs, "Rosette" in Massenet’s Manon, "Eine Theatergarderobiere/Der Gymnasiast/Ein Groom" in Berg’s Lulu, and "Wowkle" in Puccini’s La Fanciulla del West. Additionally, she covered "Cherubino" in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, "Smeton" in Donizetti’s Anna Bolena, and "Ascagne" in Berlioz’s Le Troyens.

Ms. Costa-Jackson sang the title role of Carmen and "La Marchesa di Poggio" in Verdi's King for a Day with Glimmerglass Opera.  Her European debut was as "Lola" with Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu. Additionally, she sang "Nancy T’ang" in Adam’s Nixon in China with the San Francisco Opera, a role she performed under the baton of the composer with the Met in 2011; "Marie" in Rossini’s Moïse et Pharaon with the Collegiate Chorale at Carnegie Hall; "Puss" in the U.S. premiere of Montsalvatge’s El Gato con Botas with the Gotham Chamber Opera; "Celia" in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Iolanthe with the San Francisco Symphony; "Dorabella" in Mozart’s Così fan tutte with the Verbier Festival Academy; and "Nerone" in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea with the International Institute of Vocal Arts.

David Lefkowich (Carmen, Stage Director) is an accomplished stage director and fight choreographer and has enjoyed success with different companies including the Metropolitan Opera, Teatre alla Scala, New York City Opera, San Francisco Opera, Minnesota Opera, and Glimmerglass Opera.

Directing credits include Idomeneo, Le Nozze di Figaro, L’Histoire du Soldat, and Don Giovanni at the Ravinia Music Festival with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Maestro James Conlon conducting. David also directed L’Histoire du Soldat at the Juilliard School, with Maestro Conlon.  He made his European debut directing Le Portrait de Manon at the Gran Teatre Liceu in Barcelona, Spain and followed with The Rake’s Progress at La Monnaie in Brussels, Belgium.  Other credits include directing and choreographing Acis and Galatea (Madison Opera), Salome (Minnesota Opera), Roméo et Juliette (Florida Grand Opera, Minnesota Opera, Virginia Opera, Opera Tampa, Seagle Music Colony), Tosca at Boston Lyric Opera, Cosi Fan Tutte (Opera Saratoga), La Traviata (Lake George Opera), Le Portrait de Manon (Glimmerglass Opera), and Il Trovatore (New Orleans Opera, Fort Worth Opera).  He was also thrilled to fight direct the world premieres of Appomattox (Philip Glass) at San Francisco Opera, and Miss Lonelyhearts at the Juilliard Opera Center, La fanciulla del west at the New York City Opera and the New York off-Broadway run of A Clockwork Orange.
David is a guest artist and performs master classes at several Young Artist programs and universities including the Atelier Lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal, Florida Grand Opera Young Artist Program, Glimmerglass Opera Young American Artist Program, the Juilliard School, McGill School of Music and Ithaca College.  A graduate from Northwestern University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Theatre, David has a certificate from École Jacques-Lecoq in Paris, France.  David is currently the Artistic Director of the Mill City Summer Opera in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he directed the company’s inaugural production of Pagliacci and will follow with Il Barbiere di Siviglia.
