Humperdinck’s charming, folk-inspired score brings this classic fairytale to vibrant life in a new English translation by Kathleen Kelly.
After a hungry night, lost in a haunted forest, Hansel & Gretel happen upon an enchanted cottage made entirely of sweets. But, dark things often lurk in magical places and the Gingerbread Witch who lives inside is hungry too. Spellbound, the siblings must rely on each other to avoid the witch’s oven. Mary Beth Nelson and Stacey Geyer star as Hansel & Gretel respectively.
Tri-Cities Opera is proud to offer opera for young children. Hansel & Gretel Jr. is an opera pared down and tailored just for kids. With costumes, a colorful, whimsical set and great singing, the production exposes children to a real opera atmosphere, but can be understood by the youngest audiences.
